Hello,

We have some commemorative medals that were found during a relatives house clean out, we have identified all three medals.

The first one is a Queen victoria, visit to Worsley Hall, 1851 commemorative visit medal. we found two of these. (please refer to first pic)

the second is a Calcutta international exhibition medal, 1853-54. that has been awarded to nobody.
(please refer to second pic)

And the third is another Queen victoria, 1851 visit to manchester. (please refer to third pic)

Could someone tell us please what the value of these medals are.

Thank You

Mark & Amy

Hopefully someone here will be able to give you an idea of what these medals are worth.

I would advise that you do not try to clean or try to make them look new as that will affect the value in the marketplace.

From the pictures provided, looks to me like the Worsley Hall and Manchester medals are struck in white metal.

The Calcutta medal looks like it is silver based on the toning. I haven't looked it up to be certain.

Medal values:

I don't actively collect medals, but I have a few.
Because of my rather meager knowledge in this area of numismatics, I put my keyboard to work.

Try Google Images of any medal you wish to search, and visit the site of any medal image that visually matches the medal you are researching.
You never where that type of research is going to lead you, but a valuation or ebay bid history can may help in your quest.

The Worsley Hall medal is listed in Brown's British Historical Medals (BHM) 2414 as being 52mm and Very Rare, is yours that big? it doesn't look it compared to the ribbon. I'm afraid Very Rare does not necessarily equate to Very Valuable, without seeing the condition of the other side it is hard to price but I guess to buy one in a shop would cost you £30

The 1883-84 Calcutta Int. Ex. Medal is catalogued in Puddester 883.2.2 with a wreath on the reverse as Silvered bronze, unfortunately I don't have a copy here to see if it is listed as silver as well. Again without seeing the other side it is hard to price but going from past sales I would say £50

On the Visit to Manchester the Queen knighted the Mayor John Potter, this Medal is also listed in Brown BHM2415 is 52mm and has a similar obverse to your first medal. it is neither rare or very common and from the condition I would judge it to be valued at £10

Hope this helps
