I love the hunt and chase, but I cannot figure out where this coin might be from. Any and all help would be appreciated. The coin is 13.6mm in diameter and weighs 17.4 grains.

I really don't know, but I can say that this is not a "coin". It is a token of some sort.

The writing looks like gibberish to me.

It's a copy of an ancient Judaean coin, called a Prutah. I believe this one copies the more popular Alexander Jannaeus; the inscription (Aramaic Hebrew) reading something like "Yehonatan, King and Counsel to the Jews."

These are popular as teaching aids for religious groups, as they are one of several likely candidates for the famous "widow's mite" of the Bible.

I thank you all. After looking in the direction advised, I agree with Finn235, that it is most probably a copy of a Prutah.
