When posting pics, it's humbly suggested that you orient it accordingly for the viewer. I rotated it 90 degrees, below. In doing so, I see a couple dancing. Perhaps, the owner was a dancer? My initial thought is that this piece may have been a watch fob? Let's see what others say ....

Certainly looks watch fobish, looks quite small going by the wood grain. how large is it and what does the other side look like?
