A year or so ago, these same fakes were posted on ebay by a seller in Bulgaria. Now, they are being offered from Budapest, Hungary. They all have XF detail, moderately granular surfaces and are discolored or artificially colored. Many of the top U.S. token guys are aware and now watching these fakes. Many have been reported so far. I PM'd Bobby but have as yet received no reply. I humbly suggest that all CWT collectors save some pics of these fakes for future reference. Edited by ExoGuy

It's not clear, are they all fakes? If so, there are some that sure look good. I suppose unless you already have one to compare and weigh.

Yes, ALL of these Civil War tokens are fakes. Some are copies of common varieties and others scarce to rare varieties.
To reiterate, "They ALL have XF detail, moderately granular surfaces and are discolored or artificially colored."
Artificially aged copies of coins or tokens can be quite deceptive; and, more so to a less educated eye. Note that many of the top collectors and dealers concur about this group. Note how ALL of these fakes have a similar appearance. That's what first caught my eye when I spotted the group from Bulgaria.

Just received my copy of the new sixth edition of the Fuld Patriotic Tokens. Pages 20 to 25 discuss counterfeit CWT's and include listings of known counterfeits, by Fuld number, and color pictures. I copied and titled every one of these images when I first saw this thread last month.
I put the images in a folder in my desktop. It took quite a bit of time but somehow I think it's worth sharing and having.
I wrote a mod and thought he was involved in this thread but I couldn't find it again until tonight. Now I see he was never involved in posting.
So, I wonder what I can do with the 80 images I have on file so to share this fakery with others.
