He was one of the most formidable opponents of the Chalukyas, and his queen Somalladevi was apparently obsessed with silver coins, being one of the few Indian queens to have coins struck in her name. It's thanks to her coins--which have a Gadhaiya style portrait on the obverse--that we understand the relationship between the two kingdoms.
Interestingly, I believe these coins are one of just a few coin types struck to the 4.4g late Gadhaiya standard, and are the only ones that are not rare. It is likely that these are either overstruck or struck from melted Gadhaiya coins. Contemporary accounts mention that Ajaya Deva "filled the earth" with his silver coins, eclipsing the glory of all other kings in India.
