I think I have a small date in my uncirculated set. What do you guys think? I see weak liberty, lined up date and a hook on the nine and my fingers are crossed.....

A larger pic would help, but from 100 yards it looks like a small! LOL

Sorry about the picture. Still working on my technique with my wife's Rebel. I was having problems with it today, so I thought a scan would work better.
I will see if I can improve on this one for tomorrow.

I took the pic and blew it up some, and I'm leaning towards LD, but I'll wait for the larger scan. Is this one from circulation?

Actually it is in a cello Mint uncirculated set...
Plus I noticed a darn dust/hair spot on the scanner write over the date.
I thought the weakness of the Liberty meant something...
I don't have a macro lens, pennies are hard to get a clear picture, but I will try this evening.

I am still going to try to get a better picture when I get home tonight, even though the consensus seems to already be LD. I have a couple questions though. Is it just me, or does the Liberty look weak? I thought no Large Dates had a weakly struck Liberty. Did the infamous and common Medium date have weak Liberty's? What characteristic is leading people to the large date conclusion? Not questioning the accuracy of the opinions posted here, just wanting to learn? From what I could see with the coin in hand, it looks like the top is line up, the seven does not appear to dip below the zero and the Liberty looked weak. Then again, I have been told that my glasses look like coke bottles.

I've found the strike of LIBERTY varies, and it's a difficult determinant alone. For instance, sometimes it looks sharper on small dates than you might expect: Since nobody can exactly say how soft LIBERTY must be for a SD, it doesn't make attribution any easier. I've also found it's far more conclusive to go by the shape of the 9 and 7 in the date, versus visual alignment. Here's a good resource to compare your coin against. The shape of the 97 on your coin looks LD to me, but I'll wait for a sharper pic--I hope I'm proven wrong!

Wow...good enough! I take back my previous call, it must have been the scan. Based on the shape of the 9 and 7, I'm fairly certain that's a SD--great find!

Mint_marco, Kurt, your past post confirmed it, but I had the SD deciided, before looking at the scan. Nice find! Dick

Awesome. This set just went from my sale box to my keeper box. I was thinking of keeping the set, just for the 70d Half but this makes my decision even easier.

That's very cool, for a random find in a mint set!
