Greetings, I recently acquired 1856, 1957 and 1858 Flying Eagle cents. I have done a lot of searching and I can't figure out if they are real or fake. They don't seem to have ANY of the hallmarks of fakes or forged versions. Any help would be awesome. Pics are of one of the coins. They are ALL just like this one pretty much. Thank you.

A poor fake. Design elements are rough and incomplete.

First off, welcome.

I'm not at all favorably impressed with the overall appearance of the one coin you have shown.

This is the sort of coin for which the circumstances of their acquisition alone might well indicate how likely it is that they're legitimate.

Very Fake.
Did you buy all three in the same auction on ebay?

and your first one there is definitely a very poor fake.
So I would be concerned with the other two if you bought them from the same person.
When purchasing a rare coin like the 1856 FE they retail way up in the thousands
and the genuine ones will 99.99999% be certified.

Fake, 6 in date doesn't at all look like the "185".

Must be some 1858 transfer die which was later altered to read 1856? Interesting.

Show us the two other coins, they are more common dates so there are higher chances these are real.

Here's the fake coin vs. a real one:

The 6 in the date is a dead giveaway, as TheCoinDom said.
BTW, the real cent here went for over $10,000!

Some other things to look for in the comparison pics of the real and fake 1856 FE cents are:

  • The 6 in the date of the counterfeit appears misshapen compared to the real one.

  • The words UNITED STATES OF AMERICA are weak on the counterfeit; the real one is much more well-struck.

  • Also, compare the words ONE CENT on the reverse. The words are well-struck and clear on the legitimate coin, while the counterfeit looks weakly struck and mushy.
