Looking for help in Identifying a 1852 trime. The back looks correct but the face has a c h with a diamond and good detail. I cannot find a thing on this design. New to the forum but would appreciate any help.

Thanks to all for the information. When I looked at this under a microscope I thought it may be an engraving. Thanks Again

It was a practice in the 19th century to etch and engrave a side of a coin with your beloved's initials and gift it to that person. Each is unique and they are collected but not very valuable unless the initials are attributable to a person and that person is prominent today.

Often they were holed so that they could be worn as a necklace and it looks like your example has a repaired hole.

A love token on a trime though is very unusual. There was so little material there to work with. As such it probably has some value to it. At least more than your typical Seated dime love token.

Condor's observation is spot-on. I've not before seen a trime love token in my travels. I'd expect this piece to fetch a premium from a collector of this genre ... $50 or more, is my guess. Generally, there's not as much demand, it seems, for initials as there is for pictorials.

IMHO, this thread is better suited to exonumia, tokens.

BTW .... to the CCF!

Just again thanks for the information. There was a comment that there may have been a hole in this Trime at one time but it had a piece of copper over the date that I removed to see the date. Thanks so much again
