I don't particularly collect this series, but been intrigued by the off-center error on this. I thought this coin should be medallic alignment, but looking at seller pics, appears to be coin alignment. Could this be a counterfeit error?

Despite a substantial mintage, with a significant portion of that extant, this issue has been forged extensively in recent times. For some reason the seller's picture seems to have become unavailable already, but when it comes to Chinese crowns such as this, if pressed to choose between the alternatives of "genuine error" and "either clever or inept fake" the latter should be presumed until proven otherwise, even for an ebay seller with seemingly excellent feedback. With regard to this particular auction, 75 bids seems like a lot, and the hammer price of $511 doesn't impress me as any sort of bargain. A real hodgepodge of other coins he's been selling. Looking at his feedback profile in more detail, it's interesting that he's located in Spain but has a Chinese cash coin as his avatar. During the past month, his bidder info has morphed to "private" and before that several auctions were won by the same bidder. May not at all be indicative of anything nefarious going on, but it's one of those cases of "just saying" if you get my drift.

Interesting, even as a forgery.
Large off center errors with crown sized coins are much scarcer than with smaller coins.
Still, I would like to examine it in hand first; can't do that with on line buying.
