Came across this '62 penny today and when I looked at the reverse I wasn't sure if it was a giant Cud or a heat bubble. The only reason I'm not sure on the heat bubble is the obverse shows zero damage like this or a crater. Included the weight below as well, but unfortunately I don't have .01G on that scale.

I agree that it appears to be an addition of something stuck on the coin.

@RC, it might come off if you soaked this cent in acetone.

If this were a Cud, parts of Lincoln and other design elements would be very weak on the obverse. Just some gunk of some sort, sorry.
Rest in Peace

Not a Cud, just gunk that got stuck to the coin. A Cud would involve the rim and it would also involve the fields too.

If that much was missing off the die, then the other devices would be weakened because of a lack of stock metal.
The color on the image with the scale tells me it is not the same color as the coin. You can see it is not hard. I can see letters on parts of it from other coins altering the soft stuff on the coin. Something on the coin after the strike.

Am I the only one that thinks all the crap on the back of the coin looks exactly like a hand pointing at the memorial?

I just noticed that also. That is where it looks like a letter was pressed into the blob that is on the coin. Also some smaller ones as well.
