I have a coin which has a note saying Marcus Venetus 159-1567 Icarzia. Cannot find any info on it. Anyone know anything or can suggest where I may find more info about it?

"S.Marcus Venetus" indicates it is a coin issued by Venice; Saint Mark was the patron saint of Venice and the Winged Lion of St Mark features on many Venetian coins, including this one (which curiously lacks the wings). I'm not sure if it was issued for Venice itself or one of the territories under Venetian control.

The numbers indicate it belongs to the rule of Doge Girolamo Priuli (1559-1567), verified by the legend around the cross including "PRIOLI DVX".

Thank you for the detailed explanation of the coin. Will and try and do some more research on it using that. I knew it had something to do with Venice but whatever I looked up re Venetian coinage I could not find anything like it.
