Hello everyone. I'm curious to get some opinions on the coin in the attachments, as it's one of many I sent to PCGS that came back with a disappointing grade. While I understand Buffalo nickels are difficult to grade (in general), given the cost to have the folks there put it in a slab, and knowing I'm far from an expert, I'd love to hear what you guys have to say. If most of the guesses agree with PCGS, I'll feel better and let it go, but I've been studying Buffaloes in PCGS slabs for a couple of years now, and I've seen much worse coins with high-spot wear and bag marks get far higher grades, (I understand weak strikes as well, and am comparing to same year/mint location), and only the coin-loving masses here can make me feel better.
So, with that long-winded break-down having been said, here we go.
Thanks, Bill

My best guess is 45-50 range.

I'll go XF45. Is that a scratch in your new plastic?

UNC details cleaned. I see a sharp strike with no wear. The horn is full, rounded and 3 dimensional.

The issue is that for a coin this sharp I would expect to see great luster and I see very little. It could be the pics but it looks dipped.

Great looking coin nevertheless.
Rest in Peace

This could be a tough one . I'll say AU-58 . I'm sensing some wear both sides .

Indeed. The plastic is scratched. Several of the holders were scratched upon arrival, and the scratch on the reverse didn't exist prior to sending it off, which I confirmed from the ebay listing I removed before sending it to be graded.

I do not know much about the Buffalo nickle but I see very little wear on obverse and even less (if any at all) on the reverse so I would say AU 58+.

AU53. Possible cleaning - might be just the lighting for the pictures (which is tough to get juuuuuuust right!).

It came back as AU details, cleaned, but Numismatic Student was correct in his breakdown of the coin. Thank you everyone for your input!

So that ding below the buffalo's head wasn't there before you sent it to PCGS? Notwithstanding the grade, I'd be pretty upset about that. It would have taken quite a bit of abuse to cause that.
