I finally found a local bank with a coin counter that's free to use for account holders. I opened up an account...got a safety deposit box also..
My question.. Has anyone had any concerns on the accuracy of those machines? I'm thinking some of mine may have been a little low. Anyone had any issues with the same?

I use a coin counter at my bank when I do boxes of cents and nickels. I'd say it is pretty accurate from what I've seen. I did a box of cents this week, and when I went to dump it, it came out to about 24.73 or something like that. That's just about the amount I pulled from the box. Same with Nickels, It's usually pretty close to $100 sans the coins I took out of the box to keep. That's just my machine though, I'm sure there are non-accurate machines a plenty out there.

edit: Even if it was off, it's not more than a couple pennies or nickels. So all in all if I did "lose out" at all, it's not by enough for me to notice.

Search news for "TD Bank" and "coin counters" to get a sense of past issues.
Rest in Peace

There are machines that are just terrible about accuracy, mostly in the bank's favor.

Just try the one you use and know what you are dumping, and if you are within a couple coins, that should be okay.

I count all my loose coin after bag searching except for cents before dumping. Most counters that I use are pretty much right on but some vary a little both ways. As someone on here said before any shortages are the cost of doing roll searching. Unless it's way off I would keep quiet as you may lose use of the counter.

If I was paying (coinstar etc) for use of the coin counter I might feel differently.

I used one that seemed to be off $100. when $250 in dimes where dumped. I'm going to dump some more today. I counted out $15 and placed in a baggie and will run them first. I'll run them slowly and check for accuracy. If not off or off much.. no biggie as I don't have other banks around to use except one and they charge 8% to account holders.

I didn't count much, at least $150k. I did a lot of dimes and the LaRue would on occasion miscount dimes for cents. I had a good idea of what I had, the tellers would see a bunch of dimes on top of the cent bag. I would be reimbursed after the count, as I had a receipt.

No problems for me. Although, I've never dumped cents, nickels, dime or quarters. I only dump halves. So I don't know if the cents, nickels, dimes or quarters are more problematic. I dump a box at a time. The only problem I have (about 80% of the time) the bag inside the machine fills up and cuts off the machine. A credit union employee has to change the bag. They cringe when they see me coming.

Here's what mine looks like:

The last picture is just some of the junk I find in the shoot before I dump the coins in.

The machines here have to be calibrated by the state, every so often.

I actually dropped 2000 5c and was credited 99.75, darn beavers.

My bank also has a coin machine and I buy bags, I keep track of how many coins I keep out of a bag and have yet been shorted. Half dollar bags I usually make more than what I paid as I find pennies, dimes, nickles, and sometimes jewelry in the bag.
