Any Aussie coin experts, or any body else, would like to weigh in on this?

Estimate of real world value?

Looking at ebay, the value may be $80-$100. I don't know about "rarity". Mintage was 102,000.

Not rare in mid or high grades either (I have 5 in aUnc to ChUnc and have examined over 70 slabbed examples just in PCGS slabs plus hundreds of raw coins). Half the offerings on ebay are nasty Chinese copies and many of the rest are low to mid grade (with issues such as polishing). In mid grade (EF to aUnc) there are at least 5 problem free crowns on offer on ebay at any time and usually also a few PCGS/NGC MS graded examples on offer. Your example looks like a decent (and genuine) mid grade coin and goes for about 150-250 Australian dollars. A few AU58 PCGS graded examples sold for just under 200 Australian dollars last year on Aussie ebay and on Heritage a number in the AU55 and AU58 slabs have sold in the past for USD 120-160. MS62 graded go for about 600-800 AUD and MS63 go for about 1000-1200 AUD.
A coin that you can buy dozens of examples of at any time is scarce, not rare.
edit to add that I just counted on Aussie ebay 7 slabbed, 47 raw and 7 fakes (some of the raw may be fakes) but only 3 mid grades to me are problem free and at a reasonable price to bid on. On just 2 dealers websites for PCGS slabs there are 4 in MS62 for 550-750 AUD and a MS63 for 1250 AUD.

Thank you all.

Especially nealeffendi! Wow! Thank you for such a fantastic break down. You really put the big picture together, so to speak.
