1897-P Barber Quarter With Heavy Clashing

Zurie Pillar of the Community United States 5667 Posts	Posted 04/01/2018 11:22 am I bought this coin at auction in 1984, and at the time I thought the raised marks to the right of the face were die cracks. I just got this out again and it's now clear that they are clash marks. I've included an obverse/reverse overlay (although it's of a Barber half), and the marks seem to match pretty well. Has anyone seen this much prominent clashing on Barber quarters or halves? I would also appreciate your thoughts on grade. Report this Post to the Staff

moxking Rest in Peace United States 17900 Posts	Posted 04/01/2018 11:37 am That obverse clash is very prominent. As you may know, this would not increase the value of this coin. There are far fewer collectors of classic errors than on modern issues. Plus there are some collectors that prefer some classic coins without clash marks or die cracks.
