The design execution of the caribou's head is poor. The design balance on the standard 25 Cents is much superior. Perhaps that is the design that should have appeared on this coin. It would have resulted in a much bigger collector demand, and have yielded far greater profits for the RCM.

all that is missing, is the 20$ for 20$ logo.

I bought one of these for myself. I actually like the design, it is simple and not too busy. Personally I'm glad it is not the same design as a quarter. Also even with specimen and not proof finish I think it looks attractive compared to many other specimen coins--personally I prefer it over last month's maple leaves coin.

RCM $3 is the now defacto replacement for the old 20for20 series! Same planchet used for the $3 coin; they must have had so many left over after the discontinuation of the 20for20 series. Same goes with the new UFO coin on a Pysanka, Balloon planchet!

The Caribou seems to be looking for something... a distraction? Perhaps...

Quote: The design execution of the caribou's head is poor. Actually, this one is more realistic. If you have ever seen a woodlands or barrenlands caribou, this image is pretty accurate. Their eyesight is pretty poor. So you can lure them closer for good photos by putting your arms up like their antlers... this is me in northern Labrador in 2015, trying to convince the beast to come closer... but this one circled downwind first and would have none of it!!

The Caribou's head unnaturally twisted and looks flat on the $3 coin. Not busy design is very far from genius "Kangaroo at the Sunset" by RAM So, I am still promoting this one

My first thought also was how cartoon-ish the caribou looked (yes, I know, I'm a southerner, but not a typical one having been in the wilds of Canada many a time over the last 50 years). I think the angle the artist chose for the head is what makes it look funny to me. The angle makes the end of the nose look, to me, more like that of a dog. The body, also from perspective I think, seems a little off also. I much prefer the old quarter design.

I picked up one of these last month...not a bad coin for the price. For me, the issue is more the packaging. You have this big square with a big caribou head on it and writing labeling it a caribou, and then you have this small thin coin in the upper right hand corner.
It kind of comes off as "what is that shiny thing on your caribou picture"?

I actually like the coin and thought about buying it until I found the face value was over my 'limit'. No question that if it was actually a quarter it would be in my collection by now.
