Hello, I recently came across a bunch of Morgan and liberty silver dollars in my attic. I believe they belonged to my great grandfather. Now I'm a complete stranger to coin collecting, in my completely uninformed opinion some of these coins look to be highly valuable and in really good condition. The Morgans range in date from 1878 to 1900, and theres 1 San Francisco and 1 Ohio mint mark (its an 1882). I have ten in all. Some are somewhat beat up. The liberty's go from 1921 to 1924 and are in great condition... (In my opinion) they are very shiny and free of scratches.

Just wondering ballpark if any of these are worth trying to sell on ebay or maybe even here if thats allowed. I'm not interested in selling them if they're only worth 20 bucks, they do possess sentimental value.

Any information you guys can give is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

First - DO NOT CLEAN THEM !
Get a RedBook and learn how to roughly grade them. You can also use the Numismedia price guide for free online to get approx value.
Welcome to CCF.
If you can take good pics, people on this forum can also give you advises.

If you have the 1921 Peace dollar(or liberty) as it seems you have indicated; that one should bring some significant value, depending on condition. We would need a list of morgan dates...and pics are GREAT!

Just to help with your research

O - Means New Orleans not Ohio

People here will be very helpful, but you will need to post some pictures.

The "Liberty" dollar are more often referred to as Peace dollars and the 1921 could be pretty valuable.

How were they stored in the attic? It gets pretty hot and cold up there. I am pretty surprised that they are shiney. One would expect them to be nicely toned(aka tarnished). Looking forward to the pictures.

If you mean the "O" mint mark, then that is New Orleans.

Sentimental value is a good reason to hold on to them for a while!

Welcome to the forum!

Common date/typical condition Morgan and Peace silver dollars retail for $16-20 each. Odds are that the silver dollars you've found are in this group.

However, if you have a 1921 Peace dollar in typical condition, it would retail for $100+. (They also made 1921 Morgan dollars, which are very common.)

Some dates are relatively rare and worth a premium, and if any silver dollar is "uncirculated" and in especially pristine condition it adds to the value.

If you can post pictures, we can give you some pretty good value estimates. If you can post a list of the dates/mint marks, we can at least tell you if any of them are more valuable dates.
