I have this 1990 D LMC that exhibits the shadow doubling of Lincoln cents minted in the 80's, especially the 87's and 89's. I have seen boxes of these 80's cents but never a cent from the 90's. Is this common as I have never seen one of these before?

Die Deterioration and metal flow cause all kinds of weird effects. It will disappear with the next polishing...

Crazyb0, those areas are raised and sunk in just like the cents from the 80's. If I try to clean it and it is no different then what? I'm pretty stumped on this one my friend.

@Crazyb0, here you go my friend, an extremely light polishing and the shadow doubling still shows. Again, there are peaks and valleys on this cent just like the 80's. I took two different pics as to show better clarity on the peaks and valleys on the obverse.

Notice the protorim forming at 9 o'clock. Typical metal flow movement found in VLDS. Once dies get to this state, it seemed the techs just attempted to remove the largest blemishes. Remember, if they took the face down to remove that protorim, the IGWT would go bye-bye. Better left alone, more strikes. And also, the ups and downs are those attempts to remove ascertain spot blemishes, think in reverse.
