Hey all,

I hoped you could help me with some info. I come across an old 1p that looks to be a 1954 1p coin. Looks old and maybe rare? Not seen any with 'New Penny' before. It features QE2 on one side and the portecullis on the other.

Any help appreciated!

Welcome to CCF!

The new penny was not made until 1971, and I think that is the year on yours. Made of Bronze. All were marked "New Penny" until 1982, thereafter "One Penny". 1971 is the most common year with literally 100s of millions made, so I am afraid worth very little - one penny in the UK (still in daily use) and no more elsewhere in that condition.

I looked again - I can see it is 1974 - still no change to the value...

The original old large bronze Penny (1d) of 1954, with the Gillick bust is a million Pound coin, if it ever came up for auction.
