Hello, just came across a King James gun money shilling, something I am not familiar with and wondered if anyone could vouch for its authenticity, its weighing in at around 5.7g.
Thanks in advance. King James gun money shilling, something I am not familiar with and wondered if anyone could vouch for its authenticity, its weighing in at around 5.7g.

Hello John and !

I'm no expert, but it looks similar to the ones in my collection.

Looks fine to me too. In that condition it is not exactly worth a lot so I can't imagine anyone faking one like that. Beneath the cross swords on the reverse you should have the month of issue, but it is so worn I can't read it.

Very interesting piece of history the gun money invokes, and still has ramifications today.

looks good. I put a SET of these together many years ago and they are such historically significant coins they were one of the last of the world coins I sold.
