Quote: .you have 10 sets!? Actually 12 sets. However, set #11 and #12 do not have the 16D nor the 42/41 and 42D/41. Also, many duplicates in 2x2 flips and plastic rolls.

Interesting how some of us have the 16-D, some have the 16, but so far no one has fessed up to owning both!

A 16 slq usually has to be cherry picked off ebay . The late Johnny Countdown was very good at that.

For a long time before I got into collecting I THOUGHT I had a 1916-D Merc in a complete set in one of those plexiglass cases. Decided one day to send it in to NGC along with a SLQ and a Trade dollar. Two out of the three came backed slabbed, the 16-D came back Altered Mintmark.

That date on the SLQ's is possibly one of the reasons there are so few around. First thing to get worn off.

The reason there are so few around is that they made few. The mint was still making Barber quarters in 1916 and didn't start making SLQs until late in the year.

The 1916 AU-58 is really amazing.
I currently don't want the 1916 D dime because it's too common to find for sale.
