I found this 1944 Nickel with a defect on the rim of the OBV and a crack in the REV.

Not sure exactly what I am looking at error wise?

Can anyone help? I am just learning...

Lamination error. If you use the search tool here, you can locate a number of threads you might find interesting (pictures and explanations). For new comers, you'll find an advanced search can be valuable. Good luck!

Thanks for the tip Rackster... that is what I wrote on my coin holder for this one... but just trying to confirm if I am correct :)

BTW I was reading about the metal hanging on, like this nickel example and that it adds some value to the error? Is that correct?

I agree that you have lamination flaws on the coin. Lams are one of my favorites. As to parts of the peeled metal being retained, it really depends. In this case, there is only a small portion retained, so I don't think it will add much value. The coin is definitely worth more than a nickel, though!

This type of error is highly dependent on eye appeal and the market for it. As a side note, War Nickels are notorious for lams.

Thanks so much for the input! I recently found a few more error coins in my war time nickels... mostly look like cracks in planchet. Not exactly sure what that sort of error is called though...
