I was going through my red 1967s... and I found this one! Anyone have any reference to something like this?

There is a raise there...just nothing to define the back of the neck.

Good eye!
That is the result of an over-polished die. The most shallow details were removed from the die through polishing. They may have been trying to polish out a die clash.

Yes definitely a grease or polish type error... just wondering if it is a significant one...? (seems right up there with a three legged buffalo or IGW "RUST" or something like that...right ;) ) At least I wish!! It is a keeper in my book!

I don't know if it is good or not yet...? I know I think it is a cool find. But haven't got much feedback, and can't find much to do with it... Either way... I get a kick out of it!

Thanks chafemasterj!!
I had put a batch of reds aside to look at for grading... I pulled them out last night to see if I had anything worthy and came across this one.
Always good to over pennies a few times with a different eye... can't believe I missed it the first go around. It pretty much popped out at me when I lined them up side by side to compare.

Show what would tell you which it is? Struck Through Grease or Die polishing error. What on this coin would tell us which it is?

It's a Greaser and it's been polished too.

Well from what I see, it is not both. Just one.
Which one? Also, why is it just one, and not both? These things are two different causes.

CoinMasters your posted images reads "head with no neck"...
I tried searching for this last night on pennies and didn't come up with much...? Maybe it has a different "name"? I tried searching "floating head" as well.

Ok Coop... My guess is that if only due to one, then it is grease...
(Looking at my last picture posted) Visually to me the polishing lines are non existent in the neck line area and on the neck, it is smooth. The polish lines are only in the fielded (?) area moving out from where the neck line would be...

What happens when grease fills a die? How does it affect a coin?
