Just started collecting. I came across this Penny. I can't make out the year. Or figure out what might have happened. Wondering someone might know.

Can you get a closeup of the date area? and use the CCF Free Image Optimizer to help crop your images. Please preview your post/pictures to be sure they are rotated correctly.

It looks like the date says 1971 the mint mark being D(Denver)

It looks as though the penny has damaged and bubbled die. It may have been exposed to somethings acidic or extremely alkaline.

One way you can tell a 70's penny from others is the deep rims they had especially apparent in 1972-1973 S's.

I tried to upload better images but the optimizer wouldn't let me rotate. Also that is as clear ad the coin gets. I can't get a better close up.
Rest in Peace

Wow neat image CrazyB0. I can see the date but apparently I did not know what happened to it. Do you mean that it was torched?

My first opinion when I saw it was that it had been torched.

It's either acid damaged or heat damage. Not a mint error.

to the CCF!

3.1g. Is the weight. I just wasn't sure what may have caused the rippling.
