Hey there coincommunity members! Hope your day is well!
Okay so I LOVE collecting pennies! But I have so SO many piling up in my house, and I definitely need to get rid of ALOT of them lol. I'm not too sure in which coins I should keep & the ones I should toss. I always keep all the wheats I find without a doubt!
I have a lot of the shield coins that I was thinking about just cashing in to put towards buying new boxes of pennies - are any shield coins worth looking through, or should I just toss them to the side?

Also if anyone can just let me know which coins I shouldn't be throwing away please let me know ( by throw away I mean cash in lol )

Thank you all for your help, & enjoy your day! Hope to hear from you.

All depends on your level of crazy...

Buy a copy of the Cherry Picker's guide, volume 1.

Sort the coins by date / mintmark and then for each pile, start comparing.

Remember the pricing in the guide is more what you would expect to pay at full retail than what you can sell for... but it definitely identifies those worth saving.

Keep/get rid of depends on what you are interested in collecting/hoarding. There are errors, varieties, high grade, low mintages etc. Wheats are worth 2-3 cents each in average condition,teen-20's-30's a bit more. Pre 1982 and some 1982's are worth copper value, but you can't legally melt them. So decide on what you are interested, in and get rid of the rest.

I say keep all the copper one Pre 1982 and the Wheaties. I have a large glass jar that I keep the copper ones in. The Wheaties I keep in a separate box
