I found this 1984 P LMC with no FG initials on the reverse. Its not a Greaser, I believe its from an over polished die. I do have a question, it has a die crack on the bottom of the memorial right under where the FG initials are supposed to be. Is that common to see a die crack on an over polished die?

I'm going to say it was caused by a over polished die, because I can see polishing marks from the diamond paste they used on the die. They were probably trying to get rid of a very strong Die Clash. Nice find Jim!

Rest in Peace

It is an over polished die, note the thinness of letters in CENT and the deep die scratch pattern. Now it may also be grease that completely filled the cavities, also note the chair is about gone, so this is another indication of polishings but since it is the least shallow, goes away first most often. The FG is deeper normally so should have a bit there if it wasn't filled.

I have found 3 (almost) NO FGs... but at certain angles I can see a soft impression of remnants left of it being there...so I am guessing grease. But all of them have a floating roof (unlike this one)... 1 is almost attached (1 side attached other side is not) and the other 2 seem completely unattached.

Question: Does the float roof have any merit alone?

Not sure on that one. I have three, a 1969D, a 1977D and this 1984 without the FG initials.

I am searching some others posts about it...

It was at least a term I "floated" across, in my quest in trying to learn about coins... but not sure of the interest in it?

btw... my '69 is a D mint - I forgot!

The floating roof that you are referring to is not uncommon on the 1969 D LMC's and they are also found on the 1970's as well. It was caused by an overabrated die. The only ones that I keep are the ones that are exceptional.

Also the statue is almost gone. Another indicator of over polishing.
