Just a question about storing my 2017P unc. rolls and 1943 steel cents. I have both in separate jars w/ the little white "dry packs" to absorb moisture. Is this a good method or is there better ways to prolong their life?

Well you are headed in the right direction and way ahead of the curve just thinking about preservation and prolonging their life. You will have many others chime in with their opinions, all will be good opinions! Air tight jars, zip-lock bags w/dry packs are all great. Even though they are unc. rolls from the mint, you might want to give each coin an acetone bath to clean off any oils or debris from the mint process.

Interesting. Glad I asked now. I'll wait for a few more like you say. Thanks USSID18.

Sounds like you're headed in the right direction, thinking about how to store your coins. Make sure they're in an airtight container with dry packs in them. I agree with USSID18 about giving them an acetone bath.

Are your 1943 steel cents in rolls?
Rest in Peace

One point to remember, especially on older coins is"a bad apple spoils the bunch". Steel cents lose their zinc coating, this has then over the years exposed them to the elements. Acetone remo removes organic substances only. Bronze disease, rust, oxidations are all enemies, and can effect one coin to another. Separate out problem coins from damaging others in a long time storage mode. The newer coins as the 2017's may seem OK, but if minute "split plating" has occurred, the zinc core has become exposed to air and other contaminants. They may be OK in storage if sealed properly and placed in a low humidity environment(in a controlled safe, etc). But do separate the problems, once rust has started, it usually isn't inhibited entirely, same as "bronze disease", those need to be discarded or placed contained, by themselves.
Rest in Peace

Humidity + oxygen = toning.

Additional chemicals such as sulfur, glue, rifle blueing, cardboard folders, and other chemical influences may also cause different toning, or corrosion.

Keep them from moisture and most of your battle is won.
