Thanks for any help. I think it looks French. I was drawn to it at a very reasonable price.
Head of a Woman.
Looks to be from the 1920's, maybe earlier.
Appears to have high relief and there was a reverse die that might be somewhat the opposite of the obverse and perhaps incuse & designed to bring out the front in detail?
As you can see by the image I made up, I am stumped.
This is a tough one to identify, I know, but maybe somebody has a lead for me.
Thank you.

Why thank you, silverwolf. It may be a long time til I figure it out but I suppose I am hard core collector first.
I buy what jumps out at me.

Is there a name on the bottom of the obverse? These "Art medals" usually have the name of the artist on them somewhere, otherwise they're not really fulfilling their purpose (to advertise the artist and showcase their work).

Or, if not on one side or the other, perhaps it is stamped into the rim somewhere?

I'll let you know Sap of any markings or signatures and initials. It's still on the way.
Thank you!

No leads, but I agree it's a very attractive medal.
Looks like awake(obv)/asleep (rev) (eveille/endormi?). Perhaps some lettering between chin and rim reverse?

I love that period, but if I ever got started, I would not be able to stop. I have one large silver medal that fits with another theme in my collection. And a tiny bronze or brass ash tray that I use as a change tray, picked up in a second hand store in Paris long ago.

I was worried it might just be the inner part of a button that was encased. But now in hand it probably is not.
It has arrived.
It is thicker than something that might have been an inserted raised design of a button. It is very much some kind of small bronze medal. The back or reverse is incised as I had expected and the field is flat. The anvil die must have had a design as well of the bust.
The obverse die having more detail.
It is at least a millimeter thick, about that of a Lincoln Cent I would say, and the edge has no writing but looks like it was a planchet of sorts and not some sheet metal.
I can let my imagination go and think I see a signature under the jaw there that goes toward the neck.
It is larger than a US nickel but smaller than a quarter.
Here is a image I took myself, maybe we can see more in that.
I am pleased with it. The price was very reasonable so I am not out any money. It is pretty.

I am going to have to inventory it as an early 1900's possible French medal with womans head.

Thanks everyone. It may be a long time til I find out anything, if I ever do.
