A guess (and ONLY a guess), something very hard got in the striking chamber previously and dented and cracked the die.
Subsequent coins struck with that die show the results.

So far the die has a die crack and a die chip. Not a Cud as a Cud involves the edge of the die that breaks away. There were fairly common on this series. Also the chips on the shoulders.
