Jefferson Nickel Error

I recently bought a large lot of medals and tokens and while going through it,I found what I thought was a mutilated nickel....But after looking closer,I now believe this be a major error coin.....but of what type I dont know.....have any of you seen anyting like this?

I was makeing a point to a raised serface, it actually looks like yours. Not to reopen my subject but I though it might help.

Your first impression was correct. This coin was vandalized outside the Mint. A nickel was pressed into the reverse while the obverse was flattened as it rested on a flat surface. I'm not sure what happened around the perimeter of the obverse, but that's also damage related to the act of vandalism.

Hi,

I agree. Here is another example of the same type of vandalism done to a Lincoln Cent.

When the coin is hit, the rim of the coin on the bottom of the stack can come up around the edge of the coin that was used to make the impressions.

That doesn't look like a normal hammer job. Looks more like an industrial vise or powered press of some sorts
