Through all of my searching, I have run into many pennies with a similar look to this one. Can anyone explain what has happened to this penny? Is it worth keeping, or should I just toss it back into circulation?

Just massive Die Deterioration from a worn out die (Die Attrition) with Split Plate Doubling. Very common and it doesn't carry a premium. Worth face value. Toss it back into circulation.
