I can read "...REL COMM... on the obverse legend, which leads me to look up Commodus. The reverse inscription begins "LIB AVG P..." and ends in "...VII PP".

The best match in Sear is #5654, reverse type: Liberty standing holding liberty-cap and sceptre. #5654 is actually dated COS VI, not VII, so it's not quite a match.

I agree with Sap this is the emper Commodus, from what I can make out of the inscriptions they should be: Obverse L AEL AVR COMM AVG P FEL. Reverse LIB AVG PMTR P XVII COS VII PP.

Sorry for the inane question to follow:
What does that mean with 'VII ' versus 'VI'?
Rest in Peace

Hey! A question I can answer!

The one being referenced, in Sears, has VI on it rather than the VII that appears on the coin you have.

It refers to the term of Consul. The term of consul (COS) was one year. the VII indicates that it was his 7th term.
