Hi everyone, thank you for allowing me to ask a question and that is, what is the most cost effective way to ship coins to collectors in Canada? The coins would be commemoratives like "The Great Lakes" series and the "Venetian Murano Glass" series, etc. Thanks for any tips or insights.

I have had many coin parcels shipped via USPS to me. That is definitely the cheapest.

If I remember correctly, when I bought coins via ebay from US seller, they have been shipped via USPS with tracking, for the cost of CAD 15 - 20.
Once got the coin via UPS, received after 2 days, but paid CAD 25 (the disadvantage was, that I wasn't at home at the delivery time and needed to collect the coin from their distribution facility).

There's a reason why so many spell it "Ooooops" (we lost it).

I avoid all U.S. sellers who ship by UPS. Too many problems, and price is too high.

USPS is the best option imo.

I avoid it also, not only is there all the problems mentioned above, your also get hit with a customs(duty)charge.

But If I had to I would get an account with a courier and send it that way. I use Fedex, haven't had a issue yet or you can always come visit us up here and come see a coin show or two.

I once had a $52 COD payment requested from UPS for tax and brokerage on a $12 item.

Canadian customs will always waive tax and duties for declared values under $20CAD but only USPS gets this.

I use FedEx or USPS depending on insurance etc. when there will be a tax or duty hit. If you use FedEx, consider getting your own account as that will eliminate the COD fee (I think FedEx call it ROD).

I recently had a shipment from APMEX (reasonably high value) of investment grade silver (in Canada that is 999 or better) so no taxes or duties were applicable and UPS charged nothing... That was a first. My prior shipment I included some airtites which were taxable (though should have been waived at the sub $20 level) but was combined with the higher value of Silver ... which was not taxed but I ended up with $50 in brokerage + $1.50 in tax for the airtites.

Stay away from UPS.
