I see the 1617 date now. It's on the wrong side of the coin.
The dates on most 1/2 real cobs are underneath the king's monogram, on the other side of the coin. They only show the last 3 digits of the date, and are very crudely done. The royals have the whole date, to the left of the king's monogram, as in the Mexico example I linked above.
Compare the 1725 Limas in Sedwick auction 21 (lots 827 and 828). Sorry I can't link it, but you can see what the date usually looks like.
I don't know exactly what you have Thebutcher but it doesn't look like any cob I've ever seen.
