Where can I find a list of every coin minted, around the world, for a specific year.

Wow. That's a good question. It'd be a nice resource to have if you were a birth year collector. I look forward to answers.

Uh duh Chafe! Numista! I searched my birth year of 1970 and Numista gave me ~2500 coins. What is that then? About 200 countries is a little over 12 or 13 per country. Sounds a little low maybe not. Many countries put out few. Some put out dozens.

Use the advanced search option on Numista. Use the "Gregorian date" field if you also want to find coins from different calendars/dating systems which were minted in the same year.

Numista's advanced search seems to do a good job, but be prepared to wade though a mountain of commemoratives!

I just tried it, and it gives MANY false hits. Just thought that I would warn you. Some I understand (the date is part of an anniversary , like 1970-2000 for a coin minted in the year 2000), but others I cannot figure out yet.
Edit: It seems to work but use advanced search with a particular Gregorian date and exclude things you don't want like tokens.

Quote: Krause and a little research work. That was how I did it when I started working on my birthyear set. Less efficient, more fun.

The Krause search link is http://secure.numismaster.com/ta/Co...ndowId=WJULIKrause has some data consistency problems in older years, and Numista has more missing coins for older years, but both should be pretty good in the range of the birth year set for most people. Edit: I can spell, really! I just can't type.

Numista is a resource but in my view a lousy one as there are many errors and omissions and their search functionality is weak. It does however serve a function and can be useful. In my view, one of the best resources is NGCs World Coin Guide: https://www.NGCcoin.com/price-guide/world/If you are looking for a specific coin you can type it in the "search by coin" box. For example "1855 Switzerland 5 francs" and wait for the auto-finder to list out choices - sometimes there more than one. For a more comprehensive listing, use the "Search by Criteria" dropdowns below. Select the country, region (if not sure select all), and denomination and hit search. It will give you a full list of the chosen denomination's coins for the different years. You used to be able to enter a year also and just get a more specific output but that has stopped working several months ago. Using this will allow you to find any coin you wish. It will take some practice to find rarer coins in the beginning but they are generally all there. Keep in mind that this is a searchable repository of information based on Krause. The only caveat is I have found pricing errors from time to time as compared to Krause as well as the pricing in many cases can be outdated. My personal view as a whole on catalogue pricing is that they should be taken with a cinderblock of salt. Happy hunting!
