I'm lost on this one. The coin is flat overall,But on the reverse you can see to the west there is a raised area that separates the tree branches. This coin has multiple raised areas ( I believe the pics show) both obverse and reverse. I appreciate any advice on this coin. Thanks in advance!

It could be major circulation damage. Overall the coin looks to be in ruff shape.

Definitely Post Mint Damage. Looks like it might have sat in a parking lot for some time.

Could you possibly explain how the northwest damage occurred? In the field it is raised while the coin is flat. I could understand this if the coin was bent. Also the T in Vermont is very weakened and there is also a raised area from the N through the t. Also on the obverse just below Liberty there are raised superficial lines.
Rest in Peace

The reasons for the damage are unknown. Could be parking lot scrapes as the most likely reason but it's impossible to tell exactly what caused the damage.

Damage is all that it is.

I do appreciate everyone's response, But I still fell like this is a mint error.

Not one person here knows how it was damaged, It would only be speculation. The idea & purpose of this sight is to learn how an error occurred. You have a damaged coin. Spend it

Jasper,Which is why I posted this coin. I do understand this coin has seen better days and everything this coin has isn't mint damage. I just can't understand how the area to the northwest on the reverse could happen PMD. The area is raised without loosing any of the coins features.

I have a coin similar to this one I just received as change. There are a lot of different raised areas but the dents to the left of "Vermont" look identical to the ones on this coin. There is no rigid edge like yours but it looks like it's got dents in the same spot.

Newbie234: If you must send it in,use ANACS because they charge the least. I do not recommend you waste your money on sending it in though.

The easy way to tell this is just damage is that the coin is no longer round. If you measure the coin top to bottom it will be larger than side to side. This couldn't have happened at the mint. The retaining collar, that adds the reeding, limits the size. If the coin has reeding all the way around the edge and isn't round, the coin is damaged.
ANA ID: 3203813 - CONECA ID: N-5637 Clean a coin that may be worth collecting? Please DON'T! When in doubt, leave it dirty!!
