Would like your thoughts on the following Barber ... has it been cleaned? Polished? Dipped?

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance.

IMHO ,yes it has been cleaned ( dipped ) . It's a shame because it looks mid MS or better .

The photos don't show the luster cascade, so that is something you should check in hand.

If you tilt the coin under natural light, the luster, most easily visible in the open fields, should move completely in all directions, including the tight areas of the design elements.

If the luster seems to stop when it reaches the tight spaces of the design elements, that is an indication of a dip.

I'm only surprising that this hasn't already been submitted to NGC or PCGS.

Hey there,

I found this coin on EBTH (Everything But The House) -- I've purchased a few coins have been lucky thus far.

What struck me as odd was that the auction is ending tonight yet the high bid is $130--that was my question mark.

There's an 1879 Shield nickel (also ending this evening) & the high bid is $437 -- another clue so to speak.

Thank you for taking the time to respond!

Fine advice from Moxking ....

I'm not surprised at this. Then too, it may have been removed from a slab at one time or another. If this coin was submitted, it would likely warrant a details grade. Given its obvious lack of circuulation wear, it's a good coin for a type set album, methinks.

Pics aren't conclusive to me, so I'll pass on an opinion.

At $227 which makes a bit less attractive if it's cleaned. I'm not convinced it has been dipped, but the majority of the blast white Barber halves probably have been cleaned.

Strictly on my own, I'd pass on this one, primarily because I have a few nice MS already (NGC and PCGS 63, 64, and 65).

EBTH, I'd never heard of this site before, thanks for sharing. It looks too good as the old saying goes.

Looks like it's been overdipped.

It was @ $130 this morning but the auction ends this evening.

Thanks again to everyone -- your opinions are appreciated. While I really want a Barber Half, as you said, "it looks too good" & I will pass too!

Y'all are great! Thanks again!
