A favorite coin shop of mine just entered into the second phase of a sale of coin books out of an estate. This was among my purchases today:

A-Chuckle-At-Q,-David-Bowers'-Expense-Not-A-Meanspirited-One,-Though

The address on the inside would seem to date the distribution of this copy to the 1970's.

A-Chuckle-At-Q,-David-Bowers'-Expense-Not-A-Meanspirited-One,-Though

What brought a smile to my face was the photo of the author on the inside of the dust jacket:

A-Chuckle-At-Q,-David-Bowers'-Expense-Not-A-Meanspirited-One,-Though

An awful lot of us here, too, were once just so young....

I've met Dave many times at shows over the years, and you cannot imagine a nicer guy, just hopelessly passionate about the hobby.

Probably one of the most, if not the most prolific writer in numismatic history. I don't think the man is capable of not writing. How does he find the time to write so much? Well I have a theory about that. I think he's a wizard capable of manipulating time and therefore able to create 72 hour days, giving himself more time to finish things. Or it could just be decades of accumulated numismatic knowledge combined with decades of experience as a writer. But no, I'm pretty sure it's magic.
Rest in Peace

Certainly brought a smile to my face. Which is pretty impressive considering that I will not use those 3 stupid letters indicating laughter.

How does this one compare to the new golden anniversary edition that Whitman put out recently?

I have gleaned that about his demeanor and passion from his writing style. I would someday love to meet him, but I doubt the likelihood of that ever occurring.
