I have a few questions regarding this 1862 half, it is a VLDS showing the die cracks and the large raised lump in the eagles wing (WB-103,WB3).
1. What are the black lines? I am thinking maybe rubber band marks?
2. Could they be removed by an acetone bath? or something else?
3. What would you grade her? I am thinking EF40.

Rubber bands most likely or it sat on something, heads-down for many years. I can see 40 though I think it's closer to 35.

You could try acetone and a hot water soak but I don't think it will help much. To my eye it already has that blue cleaned looked. Someone may have already tried to remove them.

I agree with xf40 but the obverse lines will likely result in a details stained designation.

This is a better civil war dated coin. Never hurts to try acetone and let us know what happens.

The black lines could have been caused by rubber bands, nothing much you can do as its a chemical reaction with the metal. Acetone will probably have no effect but wont harm the coin either. Best to leave it, all part of the coin's history.
