Looks like Die Deterioration. The dies are aging. About half of each dies coins are in the LDS-VLDS range. So if the dies strike a million coins, 750,000 would be looking like your coin, just from that die pair.

So just 250,000 are in the EDS-MDS range. Thus when buying coins, look for the earlier die state coins. They are a better bargain because they look nicer in images.
