Hello folks,

I just want to share with you this new acquisition. I like very much staters and distaters from Thourioi. The portrait of Athena is often beautiful, with all the dtails on the athenian helmet and especially the Skylla. The helmet is often in poor condition, but I found recently this one on whic all the deatils are still there.

I don't know anything about these coins except that I really like this one and I want one. Assuming it is authentic.

Mouthwatering. Those Greeks were the masters of aesthetic refinement, they understood beauty and this is the result.

Well centered pleasing to the eye.
Very nice style, a piece of miniature art.
Those edge cracks suggest authentic to me.

A beautiful coin , that is all I can say .For me , coins of Magna Graecia are the most beautiful ancient coins . Do you have an exact date ? I think the coin dates from 400/350 .
The colony of Sybaris , vanquished by the Crotoniates , changed his name from Sybaris to Thurium-Thurioi in Greek . For two centuries from about 440 , the mint of Thurium was one of the most productive and influential in South Italy . The basic dzsigs on most of the silver coins were obverse the hea of Athene with an Attic helmet , sometimes decorated with Scylla , reverse a bull at first walking , later often more animated .
Herodote went to Italy by the founding of Thourioi , after the destruction of Sybaris in 510 BC .
The name of the city comes from the name of a well , namad Thouria .
Here , the emperor Augustus is born in 63 BC .
