Dealers offering to sell coins they don't possess is an act of fraud. There is no guarantee they will even attempt to purchase the coin from another vendor at some lower price.

If there are two coins on ebay with the same numbers, I'll wager both of them are fakes.

I predict the coin you receive will look nothing like the images from the Heritage auction.

If it sold for three times "rather expensive", it must have made you think you got quite a bargain.

Filed a dispute with AMEX, quick investigation. Square shut this seller down and AMEX refunded my money. Seller called raising heck and said coin was enroute, though he still hasn't provided me with a tracking number. Case closed in my book with positive outcome for me

Good to hear. You could still be surprised with a genuine coin falling out of the mail, but I'm betting this was the right thing to do. The flags were all over the place, and refusing to provide tracking information is the kicker. If he couldn't even give that the AMEX or Square, something is definitely wrong.

No tracking number + expensive coin = suspicious/scam.

Worst case, if it arrives and is legit (small chance) you can always send the money back to the seller.

And that's exactly what I told him two nights ago and he threatened to file a police report. I have yet to hear from an officer
