1940 Jefferson Nickel Underweight 4.6 Grams

Stone bone Valued Member United States 134 Posts	Posted 05/03/2018 2:16 pm Can anyone tell me is this common weight because I looked it up and it says 5 grams yet this one is underweight also it looks like silver or something else anyway take a look and thank you in advance.. paxbrit Pillar of the Community United States 992 Posts	Posted 05/03/2018 2:31 pm About 10% weight loss for wear is a bit, but nickel weights can vary. Your coin is genuine. Silver was used during 1942-1945, all other dates are the usual copper-nickel alloy. Report this Post to the Staff

Alloy variances, metal extrusion (thin/thick rolled stock plates will all have effects increasing/decreasing over thei "recommended" weight. Report this Post to the Staff
