Hey I need help identifying this coin or token please. Only helpful information about the coin is the picture and that it's about 17mm-17.5mm. and it's thicker then a us penny. I want to say 1.5mm but probably little less.

to CCF. Weight? Need to rule out electrical box knockouts.

Are there any distinguishable designs or lettering on it? I can't tell from the pic.

I added some more pictures maybe that will help but to answer your question no I can't really make out any symbols or letters or anything on the coin, and about the weight I'm not exactly sure but it's a little heavier then a us penny.

@cf1234, first welcome to ccf. Second, please check to see if a magnet is attracted to this piece. If so, then it definitely is one of those cut-outs used with electrical boxes.

I checked before and yes it is attracted to a magnet, and what do you mean it's a "cut out"? Your saying it's not a coin?

Much more likely to find one of these in the US than a really beat up magnetic foreign coin:

Oh I see what you're saying, but I'm definitely sure it's not a cut out from those electrical boxes Because I checked the side of the coin and it either has ridges or writing on the edges. Also I can definitely see some kind of patterns or designs/symbols Making out different images on each side of the coin but since it has rust/corrosion/wear on certain parts of the coin I cant really tell which coin it is.

for comparison, I THINK you can just barely make out Roosevelt's profile on this "road rash" dime.

@cf, if it is rusting and attracted by a magnet, then this must be a steel alloy. Yet it is too thick to be the only US coin made from steel. Being a cut-out from an electrical box would be my working assumption. Coming from construction sites, it would not be unusual for one to develop severe road rash.

I have blown up and inspected your pics, but find no evidence of any design elements or lettering. I agree that there may be a light ridge on one side in one area, but I wonder if that might have been caused by the shearing operation that puts these in the sides of the electrical box. If you are still convinced that there is lettering in there, maybe use a photoediting software--even MS paint on a close-up view so that we can start to figure out an inscription. At this point, I just can't see what you are seeing with your current pics.

I had thoughts that if there is some sort of design, it could be a modern stainless steel Mexican coin like a 10 centavos, but those are smaller than 17mm. There are some modern, small denomination world coins that are copper-plated steel and maybe all the copper was worn off? Some countries (like Germany) used iron for certain coins, but I don't think that's what you have.

It seems clear that it was never a U.S. coin, if a coin at all.
