Hi all

I was looking through some coins when I came across this one that has a bulge type thing on the rim. I have no idea what it is or if it's common so any help is greatly appreciated.

I will try to explain a little better here.
On the reverse for a small section of the rim there is a slight step up like a little bit of extra metal on the top.

Anyway heres a pic, Sorry its not real great.

Luke, That's a rim Cud. Fairly common on some $1 & $2. I think I've got about 10 similar ones.

Luke,
I actively collect rim Cuds. The $1 IYOV also has a double rim Cud, i.e., two Cuds. Some double Cuds are also joined, making a 'double' length rim Cud. Rim Cuds generally only occur on the left hand side of the reverse. I have got a couple on the obverse.
Rim Cuds appear on all denominations from 5 cent to $2. I can't comment on the 1 and 2 cents, 'cos I don't none'

My CCF picture gallery has pictures.

That's nice! I see very few US coins with Cuds.
Maybe it's just the photo, but I also see rim weakness under DOLLAR, and directly opposite above International Year.
Perhaps it's simply coincidence, but sometimes a small partial clip gets hidden by the strike.
