On ebay can a seller require that a return be insured for the amount sold?

I don't think so. You might want to insure it, but that's up to you. I don't use insurance when shipping, but some people do. Just make sure you pack it securely, (lots of tape,) and use signature confirmation.

I've never heard of a seller requiring that a return be insured.
You would want tracking of some kind to prove the item has been mailed back to the seller.

Seller is obligated to accept your return, regardless of insurance. If he wants it insured, he pays for it. Pack securely and send with delivery confirmation. If you don't et your refund the same day of delivery, involve ebay immediately.

Insurance is protection for the shipper be it the seller or a return by the buyer.
Definite CYA.

If it never gets back to him you as the buyer pay for it or ebay does. They do not have to give returns for things that don't make it back

That is being entirely too inpatient.
