I was going through my unattributed coins and came across this somewhat recently bought Aurelian.

Obverse: AVRELIANVS AVG Radiate and cuirassed bust of Aurelian right.

Reverse: ORIENS AVG Sol standing left raise hand and holding globe; captive at feet left; S in exergue.

I'm not sure which RIC it is 248 or 135 my guess would be 135 because I believe I found a similar coin being offered for sale as extremely rare on
VCoins

If you can better attribute or have more info on this coin, please comment.

Thanks everyone

Both your coin and the VCoins example are RIC 248 in my opinion. Interestingly, RIC lists Cohen 142 as the type examplar for both RIC 135 and RIC 248! Cohen describes Sol as standing neither left nor right but as "standing facing, looking left", which indeed is the case. The difference then, must be one of style alone. In the introduction to Aurelian in RIC, Webb mentions that at Siscia (e.g. 258), the portrait is "unpleasing" and the neck is "often too long" (p. 258), while portraits at Mediolanum (e.g. 135) are "well-designed".

Kushanshah thank you for your input. Very interesting. In any case, I don't believe this to be a rare coin at all. Just a matter of opinion as how Sol is standing. I tend to agree with Cohen as neither standing left nor right.
