I found this Kennedy in an original US MInt sealed roll. Just wondering what could have caused this unusual appearance. Note the missing letter in "In God We Trust" and the overall rough appearance of the surface. The reverse is Bright BU. All other coins in the roll are normal.
Explain what you mean a 'Mint Sealed Roll'? Was it one of the orange and white rolls we get from the bank, or was it printed that it was from the mint?
So the coin is a pre 2001. Why is that important? Starting in 2001 they started putting the coins into pallet bags. In 2000 you could still get bagged coins. So your coin may have been in a bag, before it was rolled. So the handing may have damaged the coin, before it went into a roll. Coins drop pretty fast after they are struck by the machines. (I've seen that on the videos of coin production)
Hello all, novice in training here but I have the exact same coin...but curious because when I searched this topic before joining forum, resulted in very similar find but from Denver mint?
Quote: It was from the mint....Not a bank wrapped roll
the mint wasn't selling roll sets of halves back then. They didn't start doing that until 2002. Before that all the coins shipped out in bags. The only rolls they sold in 2000 were Sac dollars and some of the State Quarters (The 1999 and I believe the first three 2000 State Quarters were not sold in rolls, but they were sold in $25 loose bags.
