A Cud is a defect on a coin's rim. Looks like that die had part of a inner edge chipped off, thus producing an extra rim and defects above the word FIVE.

It is not a Cud as it does not involve the rim of the coin. Beyond that, it is either damage or an interior die break.

It is difficult to tell from the pic what is raised above the field and what (if any) is incuse. It has a bit of a look like damage.

More pics with different lighting may help. (assuming you can locate the coin)

Part of it is raised and part of it looks maybe damaged....mainly I am trying to test my new found skills or lack of...

Now I know more about what a Cud is/involves.

I think you guys got it with the die break/chipped.

When this series of nickels came out, I looked forward to the Buffalo nickels. I purchased several rolls from the bank and opened a course of rolls. They had a lot of die cracks and chips. So I found they were a common event on these. I lost interest because the quality seemed lacking on these die. So they are somewhere?
