The photographer of the second lot must have been lazy, because the best stuff wasn't even clearly shown! Soloi was another southern Anatolian port city, and was not a major player in world affairs. It was the home to a number of philosophers and playwrights, and was perhaps most notable for speaking a distinct dialect of Greek. The Athenians considered the inhabitants to be backwater hicks as a result, and today the word solecism is used to describe a grammatical transgression. Soloi was ruined during the Roman takeover of the east under Pompey the Great, who refounded the city as Pompeiopolis. I couldn't get a good picture of it, but the coin is actually struck in fairly high relief - I suppose not really that surprising, but I am increasingly in awe of the workmanship that went into the smallest Greek coins!
